Worn Out. Powerless. Heartbroken. Alone. When your heart belongs to an addicted loved one, it changes how you view the world. What begins as an altruistic endeavor to free your loved one from addiction turns into an obsessive quest to “love” your addicted spouse, child, parent, or friend into wellness. This twisted form of love undermines the very goal you wish to achieve and makes you lose your own way.
Cyndee Rae Lutz has walked this path and has mentored others who share this difficult journey. Her struggles have taught her about the addictions and afflictions we all confront—about individual frailties and the various ways we try to manage the unmanageable.
In this book, she weaves her painful account of her son’s drug addiction with the healing strategies and spiritual wisdom that transformed her life—and can transform yours, whether you’re facing a crisis or wanting to change direction. The result is a liberating and empowering process called “The 3 Rs for the Soul.” This fusion of powerful ideas, pertinent examples, and concrete steps will help shine a light on your inherent worth, restore your sanity, and reclaim your life.
And it just might be the best thing you can do for your addicted loved one. Often, when you get better, they get better too.
When Your Heart Belongs to an Addict A Healing Perspective edition by Cyndee Rae Lutz Health Fitness Dieting eBooks
When Your Heart Belongs to an Addict: A Healing Perspective, by Cyndee Rae Lutz, shows us how to hold our lives together when dealing with an addict, either a family member or cherished friend. There comes a time during the process of the addicted person’s life when the caregiver, or friend of an addict, must face having to go on with their lives despite what happens in the addict’s life. If it is a mother of an addict, as in Cyndee’s experience, the mother must take charge of her own life to remain strong and hold the family together. It’s not an easy road. In fact, it is heart-wrenching.This book is not about how to treat the addict, and not necessarily how to help the addict through addiction, though some of that is covered. What the book focuses on is how the caregiver can either fall prey to the addict’s whims and denigrate herself, or decide how she must continue on with her life. In Cyndee’s case, she realized that staying strong was a saving grace that helped her family. In When Your Heart Belongs to an Addict, Cyndee addresses the many ways she re-found herself and her purpose. That is what she teaches here. Her strength comes through in these pages. It’s a strength she passes on to others in similar situations. She gives examples of problems and how she attacked them and made corrections in her life. Anyone needing this kind of help will find solutions here that they can put into practice.
I have never been around drugs. Reading what Cyndee endured and how she improved her life and the lives of her sons – how she bettered herself through her health and spiritual practices, and teaching others – even for me, the lights went on in my mind again and again. I experienced many epiphanies, new awareness in improving life overall.
I highly recommend this book as a reference guide to anyone dealing with a family member or close friend suffering from drug addiction. Even for those not dealing with drug addiction, this is a book that can help many in improving their lives. This is not an easy read. It is a book to keep and refer back to time and again. I would give it 10 stars, but Amazon allows only 5 as the highest rating.

When Your Heart Belongs to an Addict A Healing Perspective edition by Cyndee Rae Lutz Health Fitness Dieting eBooks Reviews
I call this book “My BIG little book”. Big in inspiration and hope if you have a loved one dealing with addiction or in my case other issues which cause family turmoil. The author, Cyndee Rae Lutz, provides guidance backed up with experience. I love how she has organized the book to tell her story. Throughout each chapter she provides ‘My Story’, which is her experience leading to her suggestions for dealing with family members. If you are thinking of ready this book, you are already on a hard and difficult road. It will help. The pages 72 through 74 have helped my immensely addressing my greatest fears.
Cyndee Rae Lutz felt she had something to say, to share her talent with the world and I am glad she did! Living though then turmoil of addiction and other personal issues, she shows that there is a way to take care of one's self, even while hurting. I am sure the techniques she has shared will come useful for many more, walking the same path with their own baggage. Some (seemingly) simple techniques to ground one's self and breathe...
Thank you, Cyndee, for your honesty and sharing! You are an amazing person and writer, and I am happy you chose to share your talent and your self with us!
I had the opportunity to meet and get to know Cyndee earlier this year. She is as dynamic as her book is! Cyndee's book covers it all from an emotional, physical and spiritual level. So many times we ask ourselves what we did to cause something. I learned thru reading this book that it was not what I caused, but how I was responding and taking care of myself along the way that is so important. I highly recommend reading "When Your Heart Belongs to an Addict" to anyone with any type of addict or addiction in your life. It will definitely ease your burden and teach you so much!!
Great book! I have been struggling with the after effects loving someone with mental illness and although my situation and the situation Cyndee shares are not the same, some of the similarities are striking. She has been able to describe the adverse effects of being used, deceived and manipulated in way that might help us readers to understand that our lives can be terribly altered by someone we care about without our even realizing it has happened. I especially related to her take on fear and how it doesn’t have to control us. I think there are many insightful passages contained in these pages and I believe she has created a guide that could help many of us regain our power. Thanks for the positive contribution to society Cyndee and I hope many, many more people will find some useful guidance and maybe even rebuild some hope because of this story you have so bravely shared. I know I have.
This book has much to offer people who love anaddict, but it can also have tremendous value for anyone. The message I took from the book is that we owe it to ourselves to spend some thoughtful, introspective time reviewing our behaviors, habits, and lifestyle to make certain we are honoring the values we espouse. Our likelihood of finding internal peace and equanimity can be greatly increased if we take stock of our choices and match them against stated beliefs. Identifying variance and changing long held patterns often driven by fear, pain, and insecurity will open new options for greater life satisfaction. For those who do have an addict in their life, reaching a point of personal strength and acceptance is actually the best way to help their addict. While the person who loves an addict cannot "fix" that person, they can offer a model of wholeness, grace, and humanity. This model can be very useful as the addict approaches the difficult work of solving their own life crisis. This brave author speaks from experience with sensitivity and compassion for addicts and their loved ones.
